President's Message

Posted about 7 years ago by Falynn Chapman

Greetings Perioperative Colleagues!

I pray this newsletter finds you well! I bring you greetings from the

great city of Boston! I must tell you that this year’s Annual Global

Surgical Conference & Expo did not disappoint. There were 5,875

energetic Perioperative nurses in attendance. There were more than

1900+ first time attendees! You could feel the passion at every turn.

One thing for sure is that the conference never fails to educate,

expand our thinking, and reenergize our minds and spirits to new levels. The noteworthy thing

about Perioperative nurses is that we are thirsty for lifelong learning. Our organization

consistently gives us tools, and opportunities that arm us with the very best education and

evidence to change and elevate the quality of care we provide.

Greater Houston Chapter shined immensely at this year’s National Conference. I am very

proud to be a member of Greater Houston, as I am sure you are. Here are a few highlights:

* New Member, Ty Houston was recognized on stage for her military service.

* Nominating Committee Officer, Daphny Peneza rocked her first national podium

presentation

* Past President, Newsletter Chair, and Board Advisor, Darlene Murdock served on the

national membership committee and was instrumental in the chapter awards presentations.

* Legislative Chair, Joanne Oliver was awarded the 2017 Philanthropist Award for her

unwavering service with the AORN Foundation, this was her 54th yearly national conference!

* Past President, Nikki Washington, was elected to the National Nominating Committee for

the 2017-2018 year.

*AORN of Greater won the "Gold Chapter of Excellence Award" in the large chapter

category

*AORN of Greater Houston won the overall nationally recognized "Chapter of the Year

Award"!

What an exciting time we had celebrating our accomplishments. There is so much to be done,

but we should celebrate along the way. What we do makes a difference. Please join us at our

chapter meeting for more information on conference highlights. Our New National President,

Nathalie Walker shared her vision and theme for this year: "Embrace Action; Mind, Body,

and Spirit", what does this mean for you and your practice?

New Orleans, LA is the next stop for the conference, March 24-28, 2018. Start planning now!

This experience will change you in amazing ways! See you tomorrow!

Thank you!

Nakeisha M. Archer MBA, RN, NE-BC, CNOR, CSSM
